Unwrapped text
No text yet. Paste, type, or load the sample.
A single line break becomes a space. A blank line stays a paragraph break unless you turn that option off. Hyphens at the end of a line are not rejoined.

How to unwrap line breaks
- Paste the hard-wrapped text. You want the words, not a screenshot. This page does not read PDF files.
- Leave “Keep blank lines as paragraph breaks” on if an empty line in the paste was a real paragraph.
- Turn that option off only when you want one continuous block, for example a pull quote that was wrapped and has no real paragraphs.
- Scan for hyphen-space joins, then copy the result. If you still need a block count, open the paragraph counter.
What the option actually changes
Line endings are normalized first. With paragraph breaks kept, the text is split on blank lines. Inside each block, every remaining line break becomes a space, and repeated spaces collapse. The blocks are joined again with one blank line. With the option off, every line break becomes a space and the whole paste is one trimmed string.
The sample has a wrapped paragraph, a blank line, and a second wrapped paragraph. With breaks kept, the result still contains a blank line: it starts “Writers who paste from a PDF often get a line br…”. With breaks off, that blank line is gone and the result is a single paragraph beginning “Writers who paste from a PDF often get a line br…”. Load the sample and toggle the checkbox to see the same split in the box.
A hyphen at the end of a wrapped line is not rejoined. “con-” and “vert” become “con- vert”. Rejoining would “fix” real hyphens such as “well-” at the end of a line before “known” when the author meant a hyphen, and it would also miss hyphens that were not at the line end. The safer behavior is to leave a visible space and let you delete it. Remove extra spaces will not undo that choice, because it does not join lines at all.
After the unwrap
Unwrapping changes how the paragraph counter and sometimes thesentence counter see the draft. A hard wrap is not a paragraph, which is why a PDF paste looks like one block until you either add blank lines or unwrap. It can also add characters: a line break replaced by a space is often a similar count, but trimming can drop spaces. If you are near a limit, run thecharacter counter on the result, not on the wrapped paste.
Limitations
- The page pastes text only. It does not open a PDF, an image, or a Word file.
- End-of-line hyphens are not reconstructed. Check them.
- Lists that used a single line break per item become one paragraph when breaks are kept only for blank lines. Add blank lines first if each item must stay separate.
- Poetry and addresses will be flattened inside a block. This cleaner assumes prose wraps, not line breaks that are the writing.
Questions people ask
What is the difference between this and Remove extra spaces?
Remove extra spaces leaves single line breaks where they are and only collapses spaces, tabs, and surplus blank lines. This page turns single line breaks into spaces so a hard-wrapped sentence becomes one line again. They solve different pastes. Running the wrong one either keeps the wrap or, if you turn paragraph breaks off here, flattens the whole draft.
Should I keep paragraph breaks on?
Yes, unless you truly want one block. With the option on, a blank line stays between paragraphs and the lines inside a paragraph are joined. The sample on this page has two paragraphs. Keeping breaks preserves both. Turning the option off produces one paragraph.
Why is there a space after a hyphen?
A line that ended with a hyphen was usually a wrapped word, but it was sometimes a real hyphen. The cleaner does not guess. “con-” plus a line break plus “vert” becomes “con- vert”, with a space. Delete the hyphen and the space yourself when you can see that the word should be whole.
Will my paragraph count change?
If you keep blank lines, the paragraph counter should still see the same blocks, because it also uses blank lines. If you turn the option off, the paragraph counter will see one paragraph. Sentence counts can change if a line happened to end with an abbreviation and the join creates a new reading of the period.
Is the pasted PDF uploaded?
No. You are pasting text, not a PDF file, and the unwrap runs in the browser. The text is not uploaded.
